The quiet art of an evolved humanity.

Nurturing
Humans

Human evolution begins with how we nurture one another.

01A thought to begin with

A relationship is our first world.

Every human life begins with two lives — one giving birth and one being born.

Before a child learns from society, a child learns through relationship — through the way we hold, connect, listen, respond, protect, guide and give space.

Nurturing Humans is a space to explore what it means to nurture a human being — beginning with the relationship between parent and child, and extending to how we nurture one another as fellow human beings.

Yet we spend years preparing people to become professionals, while giving little attention to one of the most profound responsibilities a human being can have: nurturing another human being.

Human beings learn not only through what we are taught, but through what we see.

A living example can change everything.

We grow up watching the world we relate to.

We grow up observing our parents, neighbours, teachers, friends, the people around us, and the stories and movies we watch.

Children may see clear examples of good and bad behaviour in stories, yet the real world is much more complex. They encounter many different ways of treating and relating to other human beings.

Rarely do we come across people who consistently know how to treat others with care, understanding and respect — people who can be living models of how to nurture another human being.

02A possibility

What if we became more of those models?

Perhaps we can understand one another more deeply when we share our histories — the experiences that have shaped who we are.

It is something we can offer to every human being we encounter — as parents, children, partners, friends, teachers, colleagues, neighbours and members of society.

A few sample talks are here to begin the conversation.

A small beginning

Perhaps human evolution does not begin with changing the world.
Perhaps it begins with how one human being meets another.

And perhaps the first place to begin is where life begins:

parent.child.relationship.
